The backup I hope I never have to use.

I have a server at home.

which means: if it breaks, everything disappears.

the most boring thing in the world

so I did the most boring thing there is: I set up a backup.

it's not interesting. I don't make speeches about it. once a day something runs, ends up somewhere encrypted, and I get a message saying all good.

that's it.

why

because otherwise I think about it.

and if I think about it I don't work. I built this thing to forget about it — which is a weird thing to say, but it works.

I hope I never open it

really. I hope the server keeps running for years without a hitch.

but if things go sideways tomorrow, I start over.

next time I'll tell you what's actually running on that server.
